Oh, myyyyy! George Takei’s ghostwriter spills the beans

I think of myself as a realist. When I see celebrities posting hilarious pictures and jokes on Facebook or Twitter I wonder if that’s truly them because they seem to have more time on their hands than they should (I’m looking at you, @WilliamShatner). Last week, comedian Rick Polito accidentally spilled the beans that he’s the force behind George Takei’s Facebook page and was paid $10 per joke used on the page.

George wrote on his Facebook page:

“I have Brad, my husband, to help me and interns to assist. What is important is the reliability of my posts being there to greet my fans with a smile or a giggle every morning. That’s how we keep on growing.”

While Star Trek fans know that George has a witty sense of humor, I always thought that he posted too much, and the jokes were too funny. You would think that someone who comes up with this much funny material would actually sit down and write a sitcom episode or a movie script. That’s where the bells go off in my head.

On the other hand, he’s engaging his audience with the wit and humor we tend to expect from him. So what do you think? Are you upset by this news, or is it all in the Takei spirit?
